Vol. 7 No. 10

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - PAYMENT OF ARMY ACCOUNTS.

asked the Minister for Defence if he can say why arrears of pay due to Michael Tully, Riversdale, Ballinamore Bridge, Ballinasloe, who was demobilised from the National Army last December, have not yet been paid, and whether he will see that payment is expedited.

A cheque was sent to Mr. Tully on the 10th instant in settlement of his claim for demobilisation pay. It appears that there are no other arrears of pay due to him.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state why the outstanding amount due to Mr. Jos. O'Dea, motor owner, Glenamaddy, has not yet been paid; whether repeated applications have been made for payment, and whether he will see that a settlement is expedited.

Only two claims appear to have been received from Mr. O'Dea. One was for £16 0s. 6d. in respect of motor hirage. The liability was incurred by Irregulars, and therefore cannot be discharged from Army funds. The other was in respect of a Chevrolet motor car commandeered by troops. The Deputy was informed, in reply to a similar question on the 15th January last, that Mr. O'Dea did not yet get delivery of the car, and that therefore a claim from him did not arise. Mr. O'Dea was informed on the 7th February that compensation had been paid to the Connaught Motor and Cycle Works, Castlebar, to whom the car belonged.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state why the outstanding amount due to Mr. J. O'Donohue, George's Street, Gort, has not yet been paid; whether repeated applications have been made for payment, and whether he will see that a settlement is expedited.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply given to his similar question of the 17th January last in this case. The evidence referred to in that reply has not yet been furnished by Mr. O'Donohue. His solicitor is, however, being communicated with on the matter.
