Vol. 7 No. 23

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DISMISSAL OF KILKENNY PRISON WARDER.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that David McEvoy, Barrack Street, Portlaoighise, Leix, was dismissed from his position as warder in Kilkenny Prison in December, 1921, for assisting in the release of forty-five political prisoners; whether he has received several applications for reinstatement from McEvoy, and if he can now announce his decision in connection with this application.

David McEvoy was not dismissed from his position as warder in Kilkenny Prison for assisting in the release of political prisoners.

Following the evacuation of the prison in December, 1921, it was found necessary to dispense with the services of a number of temporary warders employed there on a daily tenure, as there was no further work for them. Fourteen of these men, including McEvoy, were discharged in consequence.

McEvoy's name was noted for consideration in connection with any vacancies which might arise for the position of temporary warder. Appointments to the position are now, however, reserved for men who have had service in the National Army, and McEvoy does not possess this qualification.
