Vol. 9 No. 10

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - COMPENSATION FOR BICYCLE (NENAGH).

DOMHNALL O MUIRGHEASA

asked the Minister for Finance if he has received an application from Mr. Robert Powell, Connolly Street, Nenagh, for the return of a bicycle loaned by him in November, 1920, to Mr. Joseph Starr for service in the North Tipperary Brigade, Irish Volunteers, and whether Mr. Powell will receive compensation for the bicycle if not returned to him.

The claim referred to by the Deputy is not among those which have recently been transferred from the Department of Defence to the Ministry of Finance for reference to the Committee established under the Indemnity Act, 1924. Enquiry will now be made with a view to ascertaining, if possible, whether such a claim was in fact lodged, but the question of whether, in the event of the bicycle not being traced and returned to the owner, he will have a sustainable claim for compensation, will be one for the Committee to determine.
