Vol. 10 No. 15

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - BANAGHER DOCTOR'S ACCOUNT.

asked the Minister for Defence if he can state when it is proposed to pay an account of £144 18s. due by the Military Authorities to Dr. J. Dalton, of Banagher, Offaly, for attendance on members of the National Army form July, 1922, to March, 1923; whether he is aware that several other doctors have received payment in full of similar accounts; and if he can state what is the occasion of delay in this case.

Dr. Dalton claims remuneration at the rate of 10/6 for each day of the period mentioned. Investigation goes to show that he attended troops, practically speaking, only on every second day. Payment on this basis at the rate claimed was offered to Dr. Dalton. I am not aware that any other doctor, who rendered similar part-time service, has received payment on a more liberal scale. Dr. Dalton declined to accept the offer and, although requested on the 29th January, 1924, to do so, has not produced any evidence in support of his claim for daily attendance. In the circumstances it does not appear to be practicable to take any further action in the matter.
