Vol. 10 No. 15

CEISTEANNA.—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - POST OFFICE STORES.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if it is intended to instal additional plant at the Post Office Stores Department, St. John's Road, with a view to developing the production of manufactured requirements for Government Stores; whether by such an arrangement the large amount of money which is annually spent abroad on such requirements could be kept within the Saorstát, and the articles produced here; whether the services of the experts engaged will be retained with a view to the complete technical training of Irish engineers for the further development of this important branch of engineering industry.

A considerable sum has already been expended for the purchase and erection of new plant in the Post Office Stores Factory. Further installations will be considered if economically justified. The need for developing home manufacture to meet Government Stores requirements is and will be particularly kept in view. No change in factory control is contemplated other than the appointment of a Works Manager in lieu of the present Manager, who has tendered his resignation.
