Vol. 11 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - APPLICATION FOR PAYMENT OF AN AWARD (THURLES).

DOMHNALL O MUIRGHEASA

asked the Minister for Finance if he has received an application from or on behalf of Miss Kate Quinlan, Knockerarasla, Milestone, Thurles, for payment of a sum of £220 awarded to her for the killing of her brother and destruction of furniture by British military, and if so, if he will arrange to have payment made without delay.

The application of Kate Quinlan for compensation in respect of the death of her brother was investigated by the Compensation (Personal Injuries) Committee, who recommended that a sum of £200 should be held in trust for her benefit. This sum was lodged in court on the 14th July last, and the Circuit Court Judge was given discretion to apply the money for the benefit of the applicant. As regards the claim for destruction of furniture, an Award of £19 with costs has been received from the Compensation (Ireland) Commission. This award was included in a Supplement to "Iris Oifigiúil," which was published on Friday last, and payment will in the ordinary course be made within the next few weeks.

Will the Minister say whether this sum of £200 will be made available to this lady? I understand that the lady is at the moment practically destitute.

The money cannot be paid except on application to the Circuit Court judge. The lady is of weak intellect and the money had to be lodged in court to be applied for her benefit.
