Vol. 11 No. 12

ORDER OF BUSINESS.

The order in which I propose to take the business is as follows:—1. (Appointment of Public Accounts Committee). 2. (Report of Comptroller and Auditor-General). 5. (Civic Guard Acquisition of Premises Amendment Bill, 1925). 6. (Motion by Minister for Justice for suspension of Standing Order 88). 7. (Enforcement of Law Occasional Powers Continuance Bill, 1925). 8. (Suspension of Standing Order 88). 9. (Firearms Bill, 1925— Report). 10. (Suspension of Standing Order 88). 12. (Local Authorities Combined Purchasing Bill, 1925—Report). 4. (Fisheries Bill, 1925—Committee Resumed). 11. (Industrial and Commercial Properties Protection Bill, 1925—Second Stage). 13. (Money Resolution—Land Bond Bill). 14. (Land Bond Bill, 1925—Committee). 15. (Arterial Drainage Bill, 1925).

I regret to say the Minister for Education is unwell, and it is not proposed to take his Estimates. I presume I am meeting with the approval of the Dáil in taking the legislative programme, as I have outlined it, to-day, and the Estimates that appeared on the Order Paper last week, to-morrow. The first is the Courts of Justice, next the Ministry of External Affairs (the League of Nations Vote), and the others on the Order Paper.

I move that the Dáil sit later than 8.30, and that the motion for the adjournment be taken not later than 10.30. We may not sit very late, but we want to get through as much of the legislative programme on the Paper as possible.

I presume that the change is unavoidable, but the House was informed last Friday that the Estimates for the Education Department would be taken to-day, and I am sure Deputies were prepared for that, and may have failed to prepare for the discussion of the legislative items on the Order Paper. While I do not want to raise any objection, I am quite certain some Deputies, who did not want to interest themselves in the Education Estimates, and who are, therefore, not here to-day, when it was expected they would come on, but are interested in the legislative items, and would be here if they had known these were coming on, will have a grievance.

Did I understand the President to say that he proposed to take the Education Estimates to-morrow?

No, I said the Estimates we proposed to take to-morrow were—Votes 33, 59, 60, 12, 21, 57, 58 and 50. I propose, however, to eliminate 50 because of the Spring Show. I think Deputies interested in that Estimate may not be present because of the Spring Show.

Question: "That the Dáil sit later than 8.30, and not later than 10.30," put and agreed to.
