Vol. 11 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - DESTRUCTION OF SHEEP BY DOGS (LIFFORD).

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that a great amount of destruction of sheep has recently been caused by dogs in the Lifford district, County Donegal; if he will state what powers he possesses for the control of dogs, and whether he is prepared to put these powers in force in that district at an early date.

The answer to the first part of the Deputy's question is in the negative. With regard to the second part thereof, I am not possessed of any powers for the control of dogs. Powers for this purpose are vested in the Minister for Lands and Agriculture by virtue of the provisions of Section 22 of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1894, as extended by Section 2 of the Dogs Act, 1906.
