Vol. 11 No. 22

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - TULLA WORKHOUSE BUILDINGS.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the intention of his Department regarding the utilisation of the Tulla Workhouse buildings in County Clare, and whether he has discussed the matter in any form with local public representatives.

These premises were transferred to the Clare County Council by the late Local Government Board on the 15th July, 1909. Owing to disuse it has been represented to my Department by the County Council that the buildings are becoming dilapidated and falling into ruin and that they desire to sell them.

The matter is primarily one for the local representatives, viz., the County Council, and it has been intimated to them that I will be willing to consent to the disposal of the premises on the understanding that full publicity will be given to the proposal and that whether the sale be by inviting tenders or by public auction a valuation will be obtained and a reserve price fixed.

Is the Minister aware that considerable hostility and dissatisfaction exist amongst local persons as to the sale of these premises, and is he further aware that people regard this transaction as a sequel to the transaction of a year ago in which the premises were deliberately ruined and the roofing pulled off?

I am not aware of that.
