Vol. 14 No. 14

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - CLAIM FOR SOLDIER'S LODGINGS.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he will reconsider a previous decision of his Department to refuse payment of a claim made by Mrs. J. McCarthy, then of Drimoleague, and now of Clouncugger, Caheragh, Co. Cork, for food and lodgings supplied to her husband, a member of the National Army, considering that the foregoing accommodation was supplied at the request of McCarthy's superior officers then in charge of the Drimoleague military post.

This particular case was thoroughly investigated before the decision referred to by the Deputy was given. From the information obtained I am quite satisfied that Mrs. McCarthy's husband was supplied with food and accommodation by her to suit their own convenience and not at the request of his superior officers. Accommodation was at the time available in the military post and rations were drawn for Mr. McCarthy from Army stores. In the light of this information, I am not prepared to reconsider the decision already given.
