Vol. 14 No. 14

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - CO. MAYO TELEPHONE SERVICE.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that the telephone service has not yet been extended to Ballyhaunis. Claremorris, Castlebar, Westport, or Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo, and if he will state when such service will be established in those towns.

The plans for the telephone development of the County Mayo are being proceeded with as rapidly as possible. An extension of the telephone trunk system from Athlone to Claremorris with telephone exchanges at Roscommon, Castlerea. Ballyhaunis and Claremorris is in progress and has been completed as far as Roscommon. A second extension of the trunk system to Claremorris northwards from Athenry is also in hand and has been completed as far as Tuam. As soon as the Claremorris telephone exchange is opened consideration will be given to the question of further extensions from that point to Ballina, Castlebar, Westport and Ballinrobe, and if the necessary support for a telephone exchange at each of these places is forthcoming, the service will be provided.
