Vol. 14 No. 16

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - COBH RELIEF WORKS.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that an application was made for a sum of money for Cobh Urban area out of the Relief Grant voted by the Dáil in December, 1925; that a scheme of road and other works which was prepared by the Commissioner and his staff, was forwarded to and approved by the Roads Department of the Department of Local Government and Public Health, and also recommended to the Department of Finance; whether, as this application was made as far back as January, 1926, and the need for these moneys is urgent, he will state why his Department did not make the grant.

A recent application for a grant from the Relief Schemes Vote which was made on behalf of Cobh Urban District, was refused because it was considered that expenditure on the scheme submitted would merely have the effect of relieving local rates without ultimately providing any additional employment.
