Vol. 14 No. 18

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - OLD AGE PENSION COMMITTEE REPORT.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether any consideration has been given to the report of the Old Age Pension Committee of Enquiry, and, if so, whether it is intended to introduce legislation amending the Old Age Pensions Act, 1924; and if he is aware that claimants who reached the age of eighty years since June 20th, 1924, have been refused the full pension of 10/-.

The Report is receiving attention. The Committee was appointed to inquire into those provisions of the Old Age Pensions Acts, which relate to machinery, and their Report does not affect the statutory rates of pension. Under the existing statutes a person who attains the age of eighty at a date subsequent to the 20th June, 1924, is not entitled to a higher rate of pension than 9/- per week.

Could the Minister say when he hopes to be in a position to give effect to the recommendations of the Committee?

I think that that is another question and I would require to have notice of it.

Could the Minister say when the consideration which is being given to the Report will be finished?

I could not answer that.
