Vol. 15 No. 3

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - THE ACQUISITION OF LANDS NEAR MOATE.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if the Land Commission have yet acquired the lands of Moyvouchley, Moate, consisting of seven hundred and fifty acres, at present in possession of Mrs. Mary Maher, and, if so, if he will state when the lands will be distributed by the Commission for the relief of distress in that district.

Mr. HOGAN

The Land Commission have not yet acquired the lands referred to which are in the occupation of a judicial tenant in the O'Donoghue Estate. The estate is being dealt with in its priority.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

asked the Minister for Lands and Agriculture if he will state the cause of the delay on the part of the Land Commission in distributing the lands of Boggagh, Moate, and if he is aware that the tenants whose money is invested in these lands are not allowed to graze it since the Land Commission took over the lands from the Trustees, and, further, if he can state by what amount, if any, the £10,000 paid through the Irish Land Bank, to the owner, the late Mr. Wakefield, Farnagh, Moate, has been reduced, and, also, if he is in a position to state the amount received each year by letting or otherwise since the lands were handed over to the Bank and Trustees, by the late owner.

Mr. HOGAN

The lands held by the Kilcleigh (Boggagh) Co-operative Farming Society, Ltd., have been vested in the Land Commission under Part III. of the Land Act, 1923, and, from the date of vesting, the Society is deemed under the provisions of the Act to have entered into a subsequent Purchase Agreement for the purchase of the lands from the Land Commission. The Land Commission are not at present in a position to divide these lands amongst the members nor can they interfere in the management of the lands which is a matter solely for the Society.

The amount of principal due to the National Land Bank at the date of the vesting of the lands in the Land Commission was £9,630 4s. 11d.

The Land Commission have no information as to the income derived from the lands by the National Land Bank or the Society, or the manner in which such income was used.
