Vol. 15 No. 15

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - KILDARE COMPENSATION AWARDS (APPEALS).

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that appeals by the Co. Council of Kildare against awards of compensation on account of malicious injuries have been pending since February, 1925; that the delay in hearing same is causing serious loss and inconvenience to persons to whom awards have been made, inasmuch as they are precluded through want of means from reconstructing dwelling houses and farm buildings maliciously destroyed; and if he can ensure that the hearing of such cases be taken up without further delay.

It is a fact that there has been considerable delay in the hearing of Circuit Court appeals in the High Court. The delay is attributable to the volume of business in the High Court generally, both civil and criminal. The present arrears can only be worked off gradually unless the number of High Court judges is increased.

I have made inquiries and I find that the case to which the Deputy refers may be reached in July.
