Vol. 16 No. 10

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - G.A.A. MEETINGS IN CO. CAVAN.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that meetings of the County Committee of the G.A.A. in Cavan which were held in the County Courthouse since 1918, have been prevented recently following, it is stated, on instructions from his office, and, whether he will state the reasons for this step.

I am informed that the Cavan County Committee, Gaelic Athletic Association, were permitted to use about once a month one of the Courts in the Cavan Courthouse for the purpose of meetings, which were generally held late in the evening. Complaints were made to the Under-Sheriff against the practice, and they were refused admission for the past month or so in deference to such complaints. This was done without consulting me, and I was not aware of the position until the question was addressed to me, when I caused inquiries to be made. No such instructions as alleged were issued by my Department. I am now taking the matter up with the Under-Sheriff. I see no objection to the granting of the use of a room in the Courthouse for any innocent purpose at such times and under such conditions as do not prejudice the convenience and dignity of the Court.
