Vol. 18 No. 5

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - GRANTS FOR ROADS.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the amounts of the grants which have been made from the (a) Road Fund and (b) from other funds for the purpose of road construction or road maintenance during the year ending 31st of December, 1926, for the following areas:—Dublin City, Dublin County Council, Rathmines U.D.C., Pembroke U.D.C., Dun Laoghaire U.D.C., Blackrock U.D.C., Dalkey U.D.C., and Killiney U.D.C.

(a) In addition to this £13,000, which was notified within the period covered by the question, a relief grant of £10,000 was notified to the Commissioners on the 16th December, 1925, in connection with work to be completed by the 31/3/'26, making in all a total grant of £23,000.

I take it these are all free grants to these bodies?

Will the Minister say what portion of the grant made to the County Council was allocated to the Urban District Councils seeing that they are responsible for the maintenance of by-ways in their areas?

I do not think I could give any clearer figures than those I have given on that point. I have set out the figures for Dublin City and County and for all the Urban District Councils.

Is it not the case that the grants quoted for the Urban District Councils are in respect of the postponement of the Councils' right to purchase the city tramways? Have any grants over and above these been given?

That has nothing to do with this question.

Are not the figures quoted for Rathmines the amounts given to the Rathmines Urban Council in respect to that matter?

I have quoted the figures for the Rathmines Urban District Council—grants from the Road Fund, £6,786, and from other funds, £1,000.
