Vol. 18 No. 8

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SANATORIUM BENEFIT (CO. MEATH).

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if it is a fact that there is in existence in County Meath a partial scheme for the provision of sanatorium benefit for insured persons and their dependents; if the scheme is administered by the Insurance Committee owing to the failure of the local authority to adopt a scheme under the Tuberculosis Prevention Act, 1908; whether the funds under the control of the Insurance Committee are adequate for the purpose of the scheme, and, if not, whether he can state the source from which they are augmented, and to what extent.

The Deputy's question relates to a condition of affairs which no longer exists owing to the decision of the Meath County Council to adopt a comprehensive scheme for the treatment of tuberculosis. The cost of providing sanatorium benefit for insured persons and their dependents under the partial arrangements now discontinued was, so far as not covered by the Sanatorium Benefit Funds of the County Insurance Committee, met by equal contributions from the State and from the rates in conformity with the terms of Section 17 (3) of the National Insurance Act, 1911.
