Vol. 19 No. 1

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - MEATH DRAINAGE SCHEMES.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state what drainage schemes in County Meath (a) are proceeding; (b) were adopted and are not yet proceeded with; (c) were rejected; (d) are under consideration, and (e) will be proceeded with during present spring or coming summer.

No scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, is at present proceeding in County Meath, nor have the Commissioners of Public Works so far decided to proceed with any scheme. Of the twenty-eight proposals transmitted to them they have, after consideration of their engineer's and valuer's reports, rejected six, viz.: (1) Dromone, (2) Rataine, Shambo, etc., (3) Fraine, (4) Stocks, Clonmore, etc., (5) Rathmore, and (6) Ryewater River. The Commissioners have their engineer's preliminary report on the Nanny River Lower proposal under consideration and have deferred consideration of the report on the Mattock River scheme pending the receipt of a petition from the Louth County Council in the matter. In addition, their engineers are at present engaged on inspections of seven proposals. It cannot be stated definitely at present whether work can be begun on any of the schemes in the County Meath this year.
