Vol. 19 No. 22

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - PROFESSORS IN TRAINING COLLEGES.

asked the Minister for Education if, in conjunction with the scheme to provide pensions for Secondary School Teachers, he has also under consideration the provision of a pension scheme for whole-time professors in the recognised Training Colleges for Primary Teachers; and, if so, when it will be put into operation, and on what basis.

The question of the provision of a pension scheme for whole-time professors in recognised training colleges is distinct from the question of the provision of pensions for secondary teachers and cannot be dealt with as a part of the proposed scheme for the latter. The whole position in regard to the training colleges is now being considered by a Departmental Committee, and the question of the necessity for the setting up of a pensions scheme for professors in the training colleges cannot be taken up pending the receipt of the report of this Committee, and the discussion with the training college authorities of any recommendations that may be made in the report.
