Vol. 24 No. 10

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. ORAL ANSWERS. - SALE OF FOREIGN BACON AS IRISH.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that a considerable quantity of foreign bacon, especially Latvian, is at present coming into the country unbranded, and is being sold, in many cases, as Irish bacon; and whether, in view of this, it is intended to ensure that all foreign bacon will be fully branded with at least eleven brands.

I would refer the Deputy to my answer to a similar question reported in the debates for the 23rd May last. I have at present under consideration the question of introducing early legislation with a view to requiring an indication of origin on certain imported goods, including bacon, when sold or exposed for sale in An Saorstát.
