Vol. 27 No. 4

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - PURCHASE OF PORTARLINGTON ESTATE.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether he will now state what progress has been made in regard to the purchase of Lord Portarlington's estate at Emo, and in preparation of a scheme for dealing with same, and if he will state approximately (a) the acreage involved, and (b) the acreage available for distribution amongst uneconomic holders and other applicants, and whether a proposal to have a suitable field set apart for athletic purposes near Emo village will be considered.

The Land Commissioners have obtained possession of this estate and a scheme for its division is in course of preparation. The approximate area of the lands purchased is 2,300 acres; the area for distribution is approximately 742 acres, the remaining area being unsuitable for distribution amongst uneconomic holders or other applicants. The allotment of a field, near Emo, for athletic purposes will be duly considered.
