Vol. 35 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Co. Kildare Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state what progress, if any, has been made by the Land Commission in acquiring the untenanted lands, containing 236 acres 2 roods 33 perches, hold by the representatives of Mr. William Wallis, in the townlands of Newtown and Hortlands, electoral division of Donedea, Co. Kildare, for the relief of the acute congestion that exists in the district; and whether he will expedite the acquisition and division of these lands.

The lands referred to by the Deputy appear to be the holding of Mary Wallis, comprising 239a. 0r. 12p., in the townland of New-townhortland, held at the rent of £209 0s. 6d., on the estate of Lord Cloncurry. The Land Commission are now dealing with this holding under the purchase provisions of the Land Act, 1923, and the acquisition of the lands for the relief of congestion will be considered in connection therewith. The matter is being dealt with as expeditiously as possible.
