Vol. 42 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rathmullen Land.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he will state what principle the Land Commission acted on in dividing the land purchased from the Very Reverend Father Doherty, P.P., of Rathmullen, and why applicants in the immediate neighbourhood of the divided land were rejected in favour of others living four miles away.

The lands of Crevary Upper and Millbrook, containing 208a. 2r. 1p., acquired from the Rev. Father O'Doherty have been divided in accordance with the provisions of Section 31, Land Act, 1923, and having regard to the circumstances of the applicants for parcels and to the limited area available for distribution.

Has the Minister had any representations from that area as to the equity of the procedure adopted in the course of those divisions?

Representations were made with regard to the division of the land. I am informed that the 18 people who got land were the most deserving applicants there. Three former employees also got additional land. If the Deputy wants to make any further representations in the matter I will have them inquired into.
