Vol. 42 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Congestion in Co. Meath.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he is aware of the congestion that prevails in Co. Meath, and, if so, whether he will state what steps he proposes to take to relieve the position.

The Land Commission are doing everything possible to relieve congestion in County Meath, as well as in the other counties of An Saorstát, within the scope of the Land Acts and the resources at their disposal. Under the Land Acts 1923-31 they have already divided in County Meath over 31,000 acres, among some 12,000 allottees, and in addition over 10,000 acres have either been acquired for division or are in definite process of acquisition. A further area of some 38,000 acres in this county is being investigated with a view to the suitability for acquisition for the relief of congestion.

Mr. O'Reilly

Does the Minister admit that acute congestion prevails there?

I am aware that in certain areas in County Meath there is acute congestion and the Land Commission are taking all possible steps to ease the situation.
