Vol. 42 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reinstatement of Galway Tenants.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries if he is aware that two families, Callaghan and Connaughton, Shannon Harbour, Offaly, have applied to the Irish Land Commission for reinstatement in the holdings they were evicted from on the Pollock estate, East Galway; if he is aware that these holdings are part of the lands now held by H. J. Bournes, Lisbeg, and John Kenny, Bellahoose, owning 1,700 and 1,000 acres respectively in this particular district, and if he will state what portion of these lands held by Bournes and Kenny the Land Commission are resuming, or if any of Bournes's farms in County Galway, where he holds 3,500 acres approximately, have been resumed.

The Land Commission have not yet acquired any of the land of Mr. Henry J. Bournes in Co. Galway, but an offer has been issued to him for the purchase of some 410 acres of the lands of Ticooly (O'Kelly), Killesolan, Glebe and Lowville, and an offer has also been issued to him for the purchase of some 200 acres of the lands of Oatfield and Newcastle. It is further proposed to resume 516 acres, 3 roods, 39 perches of the lands of Coolcarta West and Blacksticks, which Mr. Bournes holds as a tenant on the Pollock estate.

The holdings, containing 1,135 acres, 2 roods, 33 perches, in the townlands of Ballyhoose, Caltragh, Kylemore and Coolcarta West, held by Mr. John D. Kenny, have not been acquired by the Land Commission, but the question of their acquisition will be duly considered.

Applications for reinstatement in holdings on the lands in question have been received from Patrick, John and Thomas Callaghan and Daniel Connaughton, and these applications will be duly considered in connection with the disposal of such of the lands as may be acquired by the Land Commission.
