Vol. 42 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Seized Fishing Gear.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state why the Gárda Síochána of Killorglin, Co. Kerry, have recently seized fishing gear belonging to fishermen of the Cromane district, for, it is stated, fishing for salmon during the week-end close season and if he is aware that such fishing has been carried on at such times for the past five years without any interference.

I am not aware that the Gárda Síochána recently seized fishing gear belonging to fishermen of the Cromane district. On Saturday, the 21st of May, the Gárdai observed about 15 boats at Cromane unlawfully engaged in salmon fishing; the Gárdai endeavoured to seize two nets but did not succeed.

The answer to the second part of the question is in the negative.
