Vol. 47 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment in Wexford.

asked the Minister for Finance, if, in view of the widespread unemployment, and consequent hardship, prevailing in the Boira district, Killeenagh, Gorey, Co. Wexford, he will accede to the request of the Wexford County Council, and of other bodies, that a further grant should be given to enable the cleansing of the Ownavarra River to be completed.

No funds are available at present for the completion of the works referred to, but if and when available the matter will be considered.

Is the Minister aware that the number of persons in receipt of unemployment benefit in the Gorey area is much greater now than it was in the beginning of April, and twice as big as it was last year, and will he consider that from the town of Gorey point of view it is important that something should be done to relieve that unemployment because this has been brought about by the complete and unflinching assistance given to the Minister's policy by Deputy Corish?

Deputy Corish is well able to look after himself and the unemployed in his area.
