Vol. 47 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Stamping of Drainage Workers' Cards.

Mr. Hogan

(Clare) asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that about 200 men who have been employed by the Board of Public Works for the past six months on the Fergus Drainage Works have not yet had their unemployment insurance cards stamped; if he will state under what regulation these unemployment insurance stamps are withheld; and whether in view of the fact that these works will be completed in a comparatively short time he proposes to take any action in the matter.

Unskilled workers employed on arterial drainage schemes are excepted from unemployment insurance under paragraph (a), Part II, First Schedule to the Unemployment Insurance Act, 1920. Contributions are, therefore, not payable in respect of such persons.

Mr. Hogan

Will the Minister instruct one of his inspectors to get one of the workers to complain or report a case, and if so will the Minister for Finance defend it?

I would want notice of that question.
