Vol. 47 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Abatement of Loans.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will extend the reduction in payments as allowed to land annuitants so as to include repayments of Board of Works loans obtained for the erection of haysheds, other farm buildings and dwelling houses in view of the fact that such repayments are instalments of sums advanced before the Treaty and are being withheld in the State exchequer, and, if not, if he will state why this course is not being adopted.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply given to the question tabled by Deputy O'Mahony on the 22nd March last in which it was indicated that it was not proposed to alter the existing terms of repayment of loans made by the Commissioners of Public Works for the purposes mentioned in this question. In reply to a supplementary question on the same day the Parliamentary Secretary stated the reasons why the concessions given to land annuitants could not be extended to persons who have obtained advances from the Local Loans Fund for land improvement purposes.
