Vol. 51 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Co. Kildare Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether the Land Commission proposes to acquire the lands of Mrs. Mary Wallis, containing approximately 236 acres, in the townlands of Newtownhortland, on the Cloncurry Estate, Kilcock, Co. Kildare, for distribution among local uneconomic holders and landless men.

The Land Commission have obtained an order for the resumption of the holding of Mrs. Mary Wallis, containing 236 acres of the lands of Newtownhortland, and a scheme for division has been prepared and is at present under consideration.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether the Land Commission proposes to acquire the lands of Mr. R. Thorpe, containing approximately 240 acres, in the townland of Graiguepottle, and 74 acres in the townland of Clonduff, on the Aylmer Estate, County Kildare, for division among local uneconomic holders and landless men.

asked the Minister for Lands and Fisheries whether the Land Commission proposes to acquire the lands of Miss E.M. Nolan, containing approximately 173 acres, in the townland of Gragadder, and 170 acres in the townland of Rosetown, on the Aylmer Estate, Kilcock, County Kildare, for distribution among local uneconomic holders and landless men.

I propose to take together the Deputy's two questions relative to the acquisition of lands on the Aylmer Estate, County Kildare. As the Deputy has already been informed, the holdings of Miss E.M. Nolan and of R. Thorpe and others on this estate were retained by the Land Commission at the time the estate was vested under the 1923 Act, with a view to instituting resumption proceedings. Consideration of the matter was postponed pending the inspection of other lands on the estate. The holdings in question have been reinspected as to their suitability for acquisition and the reports are under consideration.
