Vol. 51 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of Douglas River, Laoighis.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount allocated for the drainage of the Douglas River, County Laoighis, the cause of the delay in commencing work and when the work is likely to be started.

The estimated cost of the Douglas River proposed drainage scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1925, is £8,700.

As the Douglas River discharges into the River Barrow it has been decided to defer the execution of works on the Douglas River until the River Barrow drainage scheme has been completed, and it cannot be definitely stated when drainage operations will start on the first mentioned river.

Did the Parliamentary Secretary authorise anybody to tour the drainage area at the latter end of last year and give an undertaking that the work would commence at the beginning of this year?

Not to my knowledge. If the Deputy has any information to that effect I would be very glad to have it. Is the Deputy making a statement or is he asking a question?

So long as the person had not the authority of the Parliamentary Secretary it is all right.
