Vol. 52 No. 6

Financial Resolution No. 1. - Financial Resolution No. 12—Customs.

I move:—

(1) That as on and from the 28th day of May, 1934, the duty imposed by Section 8 of the Finance Act, 1933 (No. 15 of 1933), shall be charged, levied, and paid at the rate of two-thirds of one penny per copy in lieu of the rate mentioned in that section, and paragraph (b) of sub-section (2) of the said Section 8 shall be amended by the deletion of the word "two-fifths" and the substitution therefor of the word "two-thirds."

(2) It is hereby declared that it is expedient in the public interest that this Resolution shall have statutory effect under the provisions of the Provisional Collection of Taxes Act, 1927 (No. 7 of 1927).

This is the Resolution which increases the duty on imported newspapers from two-fifths of a penny to two-thirds of a penny.

Will the description of daily newspaper apply similarly as in the past year?

Yes. Otherwise there is no change.

Resolution put and agreed to.
