Vol. 55 No. 17

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salmon and Trout Exports.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the quantity and estimated value of the trout and salmon exported from the Free State to Great Britain; and of the same fish imported into the Free State from Great Britain or elsewhere during the year March 31st, 1934/ March 31st, 1935, and what proportion of the said fish exported from the Free State was reimported into it.

Dr. Ryan

The exports of salmon and trout from Saorstát Eireann to Great Britain in the 12 months 1st April, 1934 to 31st March, 1935, inclusive, were 26,000 cwt. valued at £220,989. The official import list does not require importers to declare the amount or value of the imports of salmon and trout apart from other miscellaneous descriptions of fish for which a general heading is provided, and I am accordingly not in a position to give the Deputy the information for which he asks in the second part of the question.
