Vol. 56 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limited Liability Companies.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of limited liability companies, distinguishing between the several industries and services, registered at December 31st in each of the years 1929 to 1934, inclusive, and the subscribed capital represented in each group.

The information asked for by the Deputy could not be made available without imposing a considerable burden of extra work upon the staff of the Companies Registration Office. In order to obtain the particulars the files of over 2,500 companies would have to be separately examined and classified and the figures of subscribed capital in each case for each year extracted. Moreover, the figures so extracted for the years 1933 and 1934 would not be complete owing to the length of time which elapses between the registration of a company and the filing of its first annual return. The annual reports relating to companies issued by my Department give the classification of companies according to their businesses and show the normal capital in each group. They also show the number of companies on the register at 31st December in each year and the total paid-up capital of such companies. The report for the year 1934 is not yet ready but will be available at an early date.
