asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of unemployment insurance books current in each of the 22 local office areas in 1931, when the total number of books current was 282,622, and the number of unemployment insurance books current in these local office areas in 1935, at the time when the total number of books current was 279,694.

The figure of 282,622 quoted by the Deputy as for 1931 refers to the insurance year ended 5th October, 1930, and the figure quoted as for 1935 apparently is intended to refer to the insurance year ended 7th October, 1934, when the definitive total of unemployment insurance books current was 380,773. The required particulars for these insurance years will be circulated with the Official Report.

The figures for the Local Offices, which have since 1929-30 been transferred from one Area to another, have been attributed for both years to the Area to which they at present belong.
