Vol. 59 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ship Inspectors at Port of Dublin.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether any representations have been made to him in regard to the wages and conditions of employment of ships' inspectors at the Port of Dublin; whether he is aware that these men work seven days per week, frequently commence work as early as 5.30 a.m., have no regular hours of duty and are not paid over-time, and that their basic wage is only 32/- per week, out of which they are required to defray out-of-pocket expenses; and whether he is in a position to indicate the action which it is proposed to take to remedy the grievances complained of.

Representations have been received in regard to the wages and conditions of employment of the ship inspectors at Dublin Port and are at present under consideration. The Ship Inspectors' Association will be communicated with as soon as a decision is arrived at in the matter.

Is the Minister aware that many of the messengers in Government buildings who only work six days per week are paid more than the men referred to in the question?

Dr. Ryan

They all work six days in the week.

When will the decision be arrived at?
