Vol. 63 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Assistance Claims.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) the date on which the Kilkenny Court of Referees considered the application of William Dwyer, Ossory Park, Kilkenny, and Edward Lennon, Blackmill Street, Kilkenny, for unemployment assistance; (b) the nature of the recommendations of the court of referees in each case and the date on which these recommendations were made; (c) the date on which the first payment of benefit subsequent to the sitting of the Court of Referees was made to William Dwyer, and (d) the date on which the first payment of benefit subsequent to the sitting of the court of referees was made to Edward Lennon; further, if he will indicate the reason for the protracted delay in disposing of claims of this kind.

The applications for unemployment assistance of William Dwyer and Edward Lennon were first considered by the Kilkenny Court of Referees on the 31st January, 1936. The court recommended that the applications be refused on the ground that the applicants did not satisfy Section 15 (1) (b) of the Unemployment Assistance Act, 1933, and these recommendations were accepted by the Unemployment Assistance Officer. Further particulars came to hand later regarding these applicants and the applications were referred back to the Court of Referees for reconsideration. The applications were reconsidered by the Court of Referees on the 22nd April, 1936. The court recommended that the applications be allowed. Further inquiries were necessary and, when these inquiries were completed, payment of all unemployment assistance due to these applicants was made on the 18th instant, the Unemployment Assistance Officer having accepted the court's recommendations.

The Minister did not give the dates upon which payments were made to these men, although that question was asked.

When the Deputy sees my reply in typescript, he will find that I have fully answered the question.
