Vol. 63 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Customs Discharge.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state what is the average delay after a licence is handed in by the shipping company and the duty tendered before the goods are released.

The period which elapses from the presentation of a quota licence with the relative entry and duty at the Custom House, Dublin, to the point at which the entry reaches the officer at the customs landing station is on the average of 1½ days. From this point the delay depends on the time occupied by the shipping companies in producing the goods to the landing officer for examination and final clearance. The arrangements for the production of the goods for examination vary at the different customs landing stations and any delay which occurs at that stage is a matter for the shipping company concerned.
