Vol. 65 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rathdrum O.A.P. Claim.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that the Rathdrum Pensions Sub-Committee allowed the claim of Mr. Francis Maher, Tinakilly, Aughrim, County Wicklow, to the old age pension, and that notwithstanding the recommendation of the Pensions Sub-Committee the claim was disallowed by his Department, and if he will state the grounds for refusing the old age pension in this case.

An appeal was decided on 2nd January, 1937, when it was determined that Francis Maher, Tinakelly Bridge, Aughrim, County Wicklow, was not entitled to an old age pension, as the Minister was not satisfied on the evidence before him that the claimant had attained the statutory age for the receipt of a pension.

Arising out of the Parliamentary Secretary's reply, I notice that he makes no mention of the letter of yesterday's date, which I received this morning, in which he stated that the information given to me in the letter of the 7th May was wrong information. In regard to this letter which I received this morning, had I received it in the first case there would be no necessity to put down my question to-day, and I would have received information that I could have made some use of for the unfortunate person. That is all I wish to remark.
