Vol. 65 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Town Tenants (Occupational Tenancies) Report.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state whether any report has yet been received from the commission appointed to consider the question of occupation tenancies of houses and parts of houses.

The answer is in the negative.

Can the Minister say when he expects to receive the report?

I hope to receive it in the near future, but I might take advantage of this opportunity to point out that the tribunal has not been satisfied that the evidence which has been put forward has been in any way representative of the views which we were led to believe existed through the country. The response from the public has not been satisfactory with regard to that. The tribunal has been put in the position of having to probe for evidence from people throughout the country who they thought would be interested.

The Minister is aware that town tenants were promised a remedy in this matter without resort to a commission?

They should know what the remedy is that they were looking for.
