Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Returns under Courts of Justice Act, 1924.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will furnish a return similar to that published in Appendix 4 to the Report of the Joint Committee on the Courts of Justice Act, 1924, so as to bring the detailed information contained in Appendix 4 up to date of 1st January, 1937.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will furnish a return showing for the legal year 1935-36 the business of the High Court of Justice under the following separate heads (a) summary summonses issued; (b) plenary summonses issued; and (c) equity actions heard, including summary summonses.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will furnish a return showing for the years 1935 and 1936 the number of days on which each of the following courts sat:—(a) the Court of Criminal Appeal; (b) the Central Criminal Court; (c) the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court; and (d) all other Circuit Courts for criminal matters.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will furnish returns similar to those published as Appendices 2, 3 and 3 (a) to the report of the joint committee on the Courts of Justice Act, 1924, but covering the legal year 1935-36.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will furnish a return showing under the separate heads of (a) summary summonses; (b) plenary summonses; (c) equity matters, including summary summonses, the cases listed for hearing in the High Court at the opening of (1) the Michaelmas Sittings, and (2) the Hilary Sittings in each of the legal years 1929-30, 1930-31, 1931-32, 1932-33, 1933-34, 1934-35, 1935-36, 1936-37.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will furnish a return showing under the heads of (a) ordinary civil bills (including remitted actions) and equity cases; (b) criminal cases, criminal appeals and valuation appeals; (c) workmen's compensation cases, district court civil bill appeals, ejectments and rent cases, town tenant cases and malicious injury claims, and (d) damage to property cases, the number of new cases entered in (1) Circuit No. 1, and (2) all other circuits at the opening of (a) the Michaelmas Sittings and (b) the Hilary Sittings in each of the legal years 1929-30, 1930-31, 1931-32, 1932-33, 1933-34, 1934-35, 1935-36, and 1936-37.

In reply to questions Nos. 18 to 23, inclusive, certain statistics as regards the business of the several courts of justice are at present in course of preparation, and will be published as soon as possible. I hope that the contents of the proposed publication, in conjunction with the statistics which have already been made available, will be found to afford adequate information.
