Vol. 69 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Alcohol Factories' Manager.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what are the terms of the agreement between the Industrial Alcohol Company and its general manager, and whether such agreement is supported by any commitment on behalf of the Government.

The manager of the industrial alcohol factories holds office by virtue of an agreement entered into by me under the provisions of Section 4, sub-section (2) (g) of the Industrial Alcohol Act, 1934. He is paid a salary of £1,800 per annum and his engagement terminates five years after the installation has begun to operate.

Are there any penalties in the agreement under which the general manager could claim, or are there any contingent liabilities in the agreement over and above the direct undertaking to pay him £1,800 a year for five years?

That is a separate question.

I asked for the terms of the agreement.

There is no agreement between me and the general manager.

I understood the Minister to say that the general manager held office under an agreement made between him——

No, I did not say that.

Who made the agreement?

It was made between me and the expert firm advising us on the technical aspects of the matter.

And they lent Mr. Maas's services in virtue of that agreement? Are there any further liabilities on the Government in respect of that agreement?

A very large number.

Will the Minister tell us what those engagements are?

I would require notice of that. I will refer the Deputy to the terms of the Act.
