Vol. 69 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Alcohol Process.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state under what patent process is the industrial alcohol to be manufactured by the Industrial Alcohol Company, and on what terms and by whom has that patent been acquired.

The "Melle" process of manufacture has been adopted in the industrial alcohol undertaking. The right to use this process at the five industrial alcohol factories has been acquired by the State from the patentees, Société Anonyme des Usines de Melle, in consideration of a payment of £5,500.

In connection with the Melle system of extracting alcohol from potatoes, will the Minister say if the patentee from whom he acquired that patent for valuable consideration is the same firm, or is connected with the firm, with whom he entered into an agreement for the employment of Mr. Maas?

There is no connection.
