Vol. 69 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authorities' Employees' Pensions.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he intends introducing proposals for legislation to enable local authorities to provide pensions for employees of such local authorities who do not now occupy pensionable offices.

I have nothing to add to the reply given to the Deputy on the 24th ultimo.

Does the Parliamentary Secretary appreciate that many employees of local authorities with long service are having their services terminated by local authorities because of old age but are receiving no pension in respect of their long and meritorious services? Will he take steps to expedite the introduction of proposals for legislation for which many local authorities are waiting?

The matter is being considered in connection with the forthcoming Local Government Bill.
