Vol. 69 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Blind Persons' Pensions.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he has now reached a decision to introduce proposals for legislation for the purpose of amending the law relating to the payment of blind persons' pensions so as to ensure that when calculating the rate of pension in each such case, grants made to blind persons under local welfare schemes will not be taken into account.

No proposals for legislation will be introduced to exclude all grants under schemes for the welfare of the blind in assessing the means of applicants for State pensions for the blind, but there are certain aspects of the matter still under consideration, and I am unable at present to state when a final decision will be reached.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary say approximately when the decision will be reached?

I cannot say even approximately.
