Vol. 69 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Kerry Fever Hospital.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state what is the present position with regard to the erection of a fever hospital at Dingle, and if he will have the necessary steps taken to expedite the commencement of the work in that connection in view of the urgent need of such a hospital.

Owing to the heavy commitments on hospital reorganisation in Kerry, I have so far been unable to sanction the erection of a fever hospital at Dingle. The matter will be further considered next year.

The cause of the delay then is with the Ministry?

At the moment we cannot encourage the Kerry Board of Health to incur any further commitments. The rating position in Kerry is unsatisfactory, apart altogether from the question that the draw on the sweepstakes funds has been rather heavy within the past 12 months or so.

When the Parliamentary Secretary says he "cannot encourage," does he mean he is discouraging?

I think that would be a fairly accurate paraphrase.
