Vol. 69 No. 19

Written Answers. - Sale of Unemployment Stamps.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state for each of the years 1936 and 1937 the value (actual or estimated) of unemployment stamps sold.

The value of unemployment insurance stamps sold in the calendar years 1936 and 1937 were respectively £904,660 and £948,179. The latter figure includes estimated sums in respect of November and December, 1937. These figures include (a) sales at post offices, (b) stamps supplied to employers by the Department, and (c) postage and national health insurance stamps which have been used in error as unemployment insurance stamps. They do not include arrears to the amount of £4,415 in 1936 and of £6,500 in 1937.
