Vol. 70 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Labourers' Cottages for Ardfinnan (County Tipperary).

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he will state what progress, if any, has been made towards the provision of cottages for labourers in Ardfinnan by the South Tipperary Board of Health; whether he is aware that a scheme has been under consideration for two years or more by the commissioner administering the affairs of the board of health; that 18 cottages at least are urgently needed and that a suitable site has been offered by the owners of the local woollen mill and whether having regard to these facts he will explain what is the cause of the delay in providing these cottages.

Sixteen cottages have been erected recently in the immediate vicinity of Ardfinnan. A proposal to build 18 further cottages at Ardfinnan has been under consideration for a considerable time. I am informed the delay has been due to difficulties in securing a suitable site. A new site offered by the owners of the woollen mill is at present being considered in connection with a scheme for the provision of cottages for small towns in the county.
