Vol. 70 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Bakers' Flour.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that the current price for straight run bakers' flour in England is 36/- per sack ex-mill, while the current price for the same grade of flour in Ireland is 52/- per sack ex-mill; and, if so, whether he will require the Prices Commission to investigate this disparity of 16/- per sack between the world price and the price in Ireland for flour.

I have no information as to the price for straight-run bakers' flour in England save what can be gathered from the ordinary trade papers. It would appear from these trade papers that the prices of Manitoba flour in Great Britain vary from 42/- to 44/- per sack of 280 lbs. naked. In reply to a question by Deputy Tadhg O Murchadha, I stated in this House on the 2nd instant that the question of the price of wheaten flour produced in Ireland is at present receiving the earnest attention of the Government, and a statement in the matter will be made as soon as possible.

Can the Minister give any indication as to when that statement will be made?

Not yet.
